Ideas to Renovate Every Space in Your Flat

Whether it’s a studio, a duplex or a penthouse, it’s extremely important to feel comfortable in our flat. Even more so if you do home office!

Our style changes over time, so it’s normal that what we designed when we first moved in we don’t like anymore… Don’t know where to start to renovate? Take a look at this quick guide to orientate you in the decoration of the 3 main spaces!

The Bedroom

One of the basics of all decorating planning is to define your taste and style, even if it’s a mix of different genres. In bedrooms, the key is to define a focal point where the eye is directed: the bed can be the focal point, with an eye-catching quilt or special cushions.

Simplicity always works in your favour, as overloading the room can saturate your view. Light and soft colours should be chosen for walls and floors, which are conducive to relaxation. In small rooms, it is advisable to hang mirrors (which enlarge the room), choose between bedheads or pictures (so as not to overload the room) and place low beds with thin legs. A good tip for messy people is to have few objects in their room, so that they do not require constant tidiness after they renovate.

The Bathroom

In a decoration plan, the bathroom is often forgotten, but it should be taken into account as it can create a very nice space for relaxation. When it comes to the bathroom, we should focus on making it functional as well as beautiful: it should be well lit and have space to place your daily products. Then, you can play with the combination of colours, woods and textures. Curtain or screen? While the shower screen is more sober and keeps the shower water out better (but needs more cleaning!), the shower curtain is more fun and can be changed when you get bored of it.

Another thing that can be changed whenever you want is the bathmat, which is not only decorative but also perfectly functional (for some people, a must). Do you think plants are only for the living room or the balcony? You might be surprised to know that more and more people are choosing to put plants in the bathroom. To choose the ideal one, you have to take into account the light in your space and that it is generally a very humid place. That is why succulent plants are the most commonly used, although hanging plants such as potus, tradescantia (with its purple and pink tones) or varieties of the colourful columnea are also a good choice.

A very current trend is to change the typical white tiles for strident, pastel or combined colours. But what happens when we don’t want to take out the ones we have and change them for others? For that there is a  tile paint, which will leave the perfect finish without spending a fortune on new tiles the next time you renovate.  Let your imagination run wild!

The Kitchen

Some people spend a lot of time in the kitchen and others avoid it as much as possible, but the truth is that we all cook. Most flats tend to have a space problem in this room, so how can you decorate it to give the impression of having more room? First of all, as in any small space, it should not be overloaded with elements: it is not advisable to place high cupboards or fill all the walls with cupboards. It is better to opt for cupboards and choose only one wall to place them on.

And what about colour? We must abandon the idea that kitchens can only be white. Worktops, walls, fridges and even electrical appliances can be in many colours. Black, pastel colours, classic wood, stainless steel, among others, are options. They can also have matt or glossy finishes. The ideal would be to play with different combinations of tones from the colour palette and textures to achieve your own style.

Another thing to think about is the light: warm or cold? In a kitchen, cold light is the most suitable, as it allows you to see all the elements better and to be able to carry out activities that require precision, you won’t want to cut yourself! Another good alternative is neutral light, which is similar to sunlight, or LED bulbs with Bluetooth control, with which you can set their colour and intensity.

All you need to do is go to the market and get cooking!

This is just the tip of the iceberg of decorating your flat, but the key to not getting overwhelmed is to start small. Do you already know which space to start with? Get to workand renovate!
