A new film adaptation of Wuthering Heights hit cinemas just in time for Valentine’s Day, and fans can now turn the film’s iconic settings into a scenic campervan route, embracing experience-led travel.
Much of the film was shot in the iconic Yorkshire Dales National Park in the Swaledale and Arkengarthdale valleys. Camplify UK shares curated highlights for a “Wuthering Heights”-campervan inspired trip.
A much-anticipated film adaptation of the gothic romance Wuthering Heights hit UK cinemas on 13 February, complete with windswept moors, wild walks and dramatic Yorkshire skies.

With 49% of people considering booking a literature-inspired trip[1], its February release is perfectly placed to inspire adventures of our own – with the film’s stunning scenery likely to leave captivated viewers eager to experience it firsthand.
Much of the film was shot in the Yorkshire Dales, using real locations that capture the novel’s moody, romantic feel. Key filming spots included Old Gang Mines, Bouldershaw Lane, and Booze Moor in the valleys of Arkengarthdale and Swaledale, which offer dramatic views and big skies that feel straight out of the story.

A campervan road trip lets you slow down and soak it all in. The campervan experts at Camplify UK – one of the world’s largest and most trusted campervan and motorhome sharing communities – share their curated highlights for a Wuthering Heights-inspired trip to God’s own county:
- Switch off: With a recent 12% rise in searches for ‘dumb phones’[2], it’s clear that many are searching for ways to ‘switch off’ from the stresses of modern life. The wide-open spaces of the Yorkshire Dales are the perfect antidote.
- Base yourself nearby: To explore the valleys of Swaledale and Arkengarthdale, park up at Orchard Caravan and Camping Park on the bank of the River Swale, near Reeth. Or there’s Usha Gap Campsite, close to the pretty village of Muker and Rukin’s Campsite to the north.
- Walk the moors: For a true glimpse at the movie’s actual filming locations, a five-and-a-half-mile circular walk from Surrender Bridge through Old Gang and to Reeth High Moor is ideal. Or there’s the well-trodden hiking route from Keld to Muker.
- Eat well: For a bite to eat in Swaledale, there’s the Punch Bowl Inn near Low Row or Keld Green Café in Keld. Or a little further afield, there’s Simonstone Hall near Hawes (in Wharfedale), where the cast stayed during filming.
Campervans offer total flexibility, allowing travellers to discover the best views, change plans with the (sometimes unpredictable!) Yorkshire weather and return to a warm and comfortable base after long walks. With no fixed hotel schedule, campervan trips can be shaped around a self-led itinerary, at their own pace, with the kettle always on standby.

Daniela Friedrich, Head of Marketing at Camplify UK commented:
“There’s something incredibly romantic about watching a film and then driving straight into its setting – especially when that setting is the rolling hills, big skies, and winding roads of the Yorkshire Dales. As part of the offline travel boom, people are increasingly craving experiences instead of screens, and a campervan trip lets couples or friends escape the stresses of every day by immersing themselves in a real adventure, as though they’ve driven straight into the story.”
