What Nobody Tells You About The Cotswolds

Nobody earns more money in the UK than a Cotswolds cabbie, and that’s a statement I will hang my hat on!

Once in the Cotswolds, you better be prepared to pre-book taxis 24 hours ahead and get your credit card out because they are three to four times more expensive than London taxis, and that’s if you are lucky enough to get one!

I have had the good fortune of visiting this stunning area of the UK numerous times and it has been an issue every, single time, so you can imagine my trepidation as I boarded the National Express coach to Cirencester.

I could not believe my luck when I stepped off the coach slap, bang opposite Ingleside House Hotel.  This makes a trip to the Cotswolds truly affordable and accessible to those wanting to visit from London without a car.

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous.  I love it when a hotel decides on a bold, colourful interior and really goes for it so that you truly feel like you are having an experience transported away from the norm.  My room, Lewis, was huge, with a standalone bath in the room to complete the luxurious experience and walk in shower.  It has all the modern conveniences such as Chromecast TV and coffee machine.

Ingleside House Hotel was completely refurbished during Lockdown and each of their rooms has a unique style and character, which I loved.

It gets even better.  The hotel has a delicious on-site restaurant, Teatro, in case you both wanted to have a drink with dinner.  They also have live music on in the bar at the weekends and they have a theatre attached to the hotel.  What more could you need?

If you did want to venture out, Cirencester is a beautiful town for mooching and if you want to stretch your legs a little further you could have a hike around the stunning Cirencester Park.

A fabulous new garden kitchen restaurant, Roots and Seeds has opened on the edge of Cirencester Park serving dishes inspired by the vegetables and herbs they grow on-site.  You can get everything from amazing looking breakfasts to a sumptuous Venison Ragu made from meat shot on the estate, to cakes and coffee. They are also opening a deli soon so you will be able to stock up on local delicacies.

This area and hotel is so worth a visit and now that I have found the solution to the pesky taxi situation what’s stopping you?
