The Piece Hall is really rocking with world class music acts flocking to play at the famous open air music venue.
Right about now I am in the midst of having the absolute time of my life, attending all the live summer music gigs at the Piece Hall in Halifax. I am loving getting H&N Magazine readers and followers in on the action, recently I have enjoyed a varied range of musical acts such as Ministry of Sound Classical, Irish legend Hozier and cheeky chap George Ezra. It’s been a fabulous few days and I have more live music to share with you.
Let’s set the scene, it’s a bleak miserable rainy Friday evening in Halifax and the drizzle is coming down, but we Yorkshire folk are ready for all seasons, it doesn’t faze us at all.

How can you feel miserable about the weather when super club Ministry Of Sound is in town with their absolutely fantastic orchestral concert bringing all the sunny vibes right to our doorstep. Who needs the sunny isles of Ibiza when we have Costa Del Halifax! Ministry Of Sound brought the music but us folk of Halifax brought the sun and dance moves, Ellie Sax and Roger Sanchez opened the show before the main act of the night, the amazing 32 piece Manchester Orchestra led by conductor David Mahoney, took to the stage playing classic tracks such as Fat Boy Slims ‘Right Here, Right Now’, The Chemical Brothers ‘ Hey Boy Hey Girl’ and ‘Insomnia’ by Faithless. All brought to life and reimagined into pure musical genius and nostalgia. It took me back to my youth, back in the rave hey days and I was in my absolute element tune after tune. I definitely got a few goosebumps and even a bit teary when they gave a nod to the NHS playing classic hit ‘You’re Not Alone’.

Sunday nights offering was Irish legend Hozier, who brought the Unreal Unearth Tour to Halifax to an adoring crowd of 5,500 with a sell out show. Taking to the stage the Irish hit maker declared to his fans ‘What A Beautiful Place’ statements like this makes me proud of our little town.
Hozier’s hit set opened up with the dreamy ‘Eat Your Young‘, and he closed the show with number one hit the absolutely fantastic ‘Take Me To Church‘. As a fan of Hozier I sang along to song after song, hit after hit and the setlist hit me with all the feels. Like most I think it was pretty surreal he was actually performing in the Piece Hall on a summer Sunday night in July.

Hit maker George Ezra rocked into Monday, I cannot lie I have a massive soft spot for George Ezra, so I was pretty excited for this gig. I think it left quite a lot of people speechless having George up on that stage. George set the scene when he came on to massive applause, you could really feel the energy and excitement building.
He opened the show with ‘Anyone for You’ and ‘Cassy O’, and packed his set full of number one hits such as ‘Paradise’, ‘Green Green Grass’, ‘Barcelona’ and ‘Budapest’, he finished with fan favourite ‘Shot Gun’.

The Piece Hall are really pulling out all the stops this year bringing world class artists to Halifax and I am loving every minute of it! If you get chance to go to a gig, I very much recommend it.
